While attempts at constructing a steel cable tensegrity frame for this chair ultimately proved unsuccessful, a new method for forming doubly-curved surfaces out of wood was discovered. Laser-cutting spiral patterns into 1/8" plywood provided a surprising amount of flexibility for forming complex surfaces and will require further research. Layers of this modified plywood were combined with fiberglass and vacuumed over CNC milled formwork to realize the final shape.
